PURPOSE

The purpose of this webinar is to:

  • Provide an overview of the duties of a Fully Qualified Actuary (e.g. Code of Conduct, Standards, etc.);
  •  Present the Professional Judgement Paper and its recommendations;
  •  Give examples of grey-zones and challenges that a Fully Qualified Actuary can be facing in the context of Solvency II, Big Data and AI and present recommendations on how to handle specific situations and the supporting documents that Fully Qualified Actuaries can use when facing challenging situations.

Professional Judgement Paper

Speakers: Siegbert Baldauf and Xavier Gómez, members of the AAE Task Force Roles of Actuaries, professional judgment workstream.

Siegbert and Xavier will present the paper on Professional Judgement developed and approved by the AAE. Besides being a well-educated expert, a Fully Qualified Actuary has to adhere to the Code of Conduct and this can be challenging in some cases. Therefore, Siegbert and Xavier will elaborate on the consequences arising from this fact.

Example of challenges with Solvency II (e.g. cash-flows and discounting) and the interest rate stress test

Speaker: Siegbert Baldauf, Chairperson of the AAE Solvency II working group and member of the AAE Task Force Roles of Actuaries, professional judgment workstream.

Siegbert will present some examples from different fields of activity (e.g. Solvency II, statutory accounting, cash flow analysis) where Professional Judgement from an actuary standpoint is necessary in order to consider appropriately all aspects of the issue considered.

Example of challenges with Big data and AI

Speaker: Esko Kivisaari, Immediate Past Chairperson of the AAE, Member of the EIOPA Consultative Expert Group on digital ethics and insurance details.

Esko will present some examples on the challenges that Fully Qualified Actuaries may experience when working in the AI and Big Data field and on how Professional Judgement is of paramount importance when supporting decision makers and communicating on the quality of data and the techniques used.

The language of the webinar will be English.

Costs

Participation is free of charge and open only to actuaries who are members of one of the AAE Member Associations.

CPD

You might be allowed to count participation in the webinar as CPD, depending on your association’s CPD requirements/rules. Proof of participation can be provided on request.

Organisation

The webinar is organised by the AAE in cooperation with the European Actuarial Academy (EAA). The EAA will take care of the technical part of the webinar and will send you a link to access the test session and the webinar. Both links will be sent to you on [date to be determined].

Recording

A recording is made of the webinar. When registering for the webinar you accept that your name can be mentioned. The recording will only be available to registered members on the AAE website.
