The Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) is presenting a seminar in Brussels on the topic of ‘The Ageing of the EU – implications for Pensions’.
Places are available at a first-come, first served basis. Please register on the AAE website using this link.
In March 2016 the AAE published a discussion paper on this topic. The discussion paper reviews some of the key features of the population projections used in the 2015 Ageing Report, comments on some of the areas of uncertainty and potential controversy, and then considers what the projections tell us about future sustainability and adequacy of pension systems in the EU. The discussion paper aims to inform decisionmakers and interested parties throughout the EU and particularly in Brussels. The AAE suggests that the range of issues regarding the major risks to future pension adequacy, and how to mitigate them, merit special and increased attention in the next cycle of this analytical work. The AAE also intends to carry out further research into the way in which different mortality tables are being used for projecting pension costs and also for driving policies of increasing retirement age.
The seminar will discuss the main conclusions of the ‘2015 Ageing Report’ and the ‘Pension Adequacy Report’, published in 2015 by the European Commission.
It can be expected that the ageing in Europe will have a great impact not only on pensions and social security systems but also the demand for bespoke life and health insurance covers and the demand for employment to employees reaching or beyond normal retirement age.
The target audience is senior actuaries, governors/trustees of pension institutions, CROs and CEOs of (re-) insurance undertakings, pensions and insurance regulators and supervisors, politicians and other European policy-makers. The seminar will include keynote speeches by Anne Drouin, Chief, Public Finance, Actuarial Services and Statistics Branch of the ILO Social Protection Dept. and Fritz Von Nordheim, Deputy head of Unit C2, DG Employment and Social Affairs, and a panel session moderated by Falco Valkenburg, Chair of the AAE Pensions Committee.
The seminar is free of charge, and will take place at 16.30 CET on Wednesday 16 November 2016 at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Wolvengracht 47, Brussels, followed by a drinks reception.
